Member spotlight - Salt Communications. Reflections on 2024...

Belfast based secure communications company makes great strides into 2025.

As we reflect on 2024, Salt Communications is proud to say this year has been one of exceptional growth, innovation, and achievement. From expanding our presence globally to enhancing our product offering, we have stayed true to our mission of delivering best-in-class secure communication solutions to organisations across sectors such as government, military, finance, and law enforcement. Here’s a detailed recap of our journey through 2024.

Global Engagement and Industry Leadership

This year, Salt Communications proudly took our mission of secure communications even further across the globe, participating in some of the world’s most prestigious cybersecurity events and expanding our presence in key international markets. From engaging with policymakers and thought leaders to collaborating with financial organisations and industry professionals, we have reinforced our position as a leader in addressing critical security challenges around the topic of mobile communications. Here’s a look at how we made our mark on the global stage, driving innovation and fostering connections within the cybersecurity community.

Our participation in Cyber UK 2024 provided a platform to connect with influential policymakers, thought leaders, and potential clients. This pivotal event further positioned Salt Communications as a cornerstone of secure communications for industries grappling with critical security threats.

Earlier this year, our team travelled to Copenhagen as part of the Invest NI Tech Mission, joining other Northern Ireland tech companies to present at the Northern Ireland Round Table event, hosted at the Copenhagen Fintech Lab. This mission provided an incredible opportunity to showcase our expertise to an audience of financial organisations including Danske Bank, Nordea Bank, BEC Financial Technologies and SDC A/S, opening doors to new collaborations
and opportunities.

Another highlight of the year was our visit to Amsterdam through the Invest NI Going Dutch Programme, alongside six other innovative Northern Ireland companies. This program enabled us to explore the thriving Dutch market, a hub of innovation and commerce in Europe. During our time there, we connected with local businesses, industry experts, and potential partners, gaining valuable insights into the region’s business ecosystem. This experience allowed us to
showcase Salt Communications’ cutting-edge secure communication solutions, further strengthening our international network and advancing our global mission.

Closer to home, we participated in the Industry Partner Showcase during the CSIT Annual Cyber Security Summit, an event that celebrated an incredible 15 years of CSIT. This gathering provided a fantastic opportunity to engage with industry leaders, exchange insights, and discuss the future of secure communications in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

Additionally, our CEO, Joe Boyle, delivered an impactful presentation at the Telecoms Cyber Conference in Nicosia, Cyprus. The event brought together industry professionals to examine the dynamic cybersecurity challenges in the telecommunications sector. Joe’s session offered deep insights into the escalating sophistication of cyber threats and the unique challenges faced by the Cypriot telecom industry, providing a valuable perspective on the evolving threat
landscape.

With a real focus on the financial market in 2024, our leadership at the EU DORA Summit in Dublin showcased how our platform supports compliance with the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), a critical regulation for financial institutions across Europe. At these events, our focus was not only on demonstrating our technical expertise but also on providing practical solutions for the growing threats to digital communications.

Milestones and Awards

2024 has been a year filled with remarkable achievements, most notably our graduation from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) for Startups Programme. This prestigious programme helped us refine our solution, enabling us to offer even greater value to our clients.

The mentorship and resources provided by the NCSC have empowered us to meet the stringent security demands of governments and high-level enterprises.

Throughout 2024, Salt Communications was also honoured to be shortlisted for a remarkable array of prestigious awards, including the Digital DNA Awards, Go:Tech Awards, Computing Security Excellence Awards, Business Eye Awards, Tech Excellence Awards, Computing Cloud Excellence Awards, CNA Awards, Computing Security Awards, Belfast Chamber Awards, Security & Fire Excellence Awards, and the Scale Up Awards. These nominations underscore our dedication to innovation, growth, and excellence in secure communications, cybersecurity, and business success. Our achievements this year reflect our commitment to delivering impactful solutions and leading the way in the tech industry.

Notable award wins further highlight this commitment:

Product Advancements

This year, Salt Communications has introduced several impactful product enhancements to improve user experience and increase operational efficiencies for its fastest growing markets. As an example, the introduction of “Direct Critical Alerts” ensures urgent communications are prioritised effectively. Salt has also introduced a number of additional capabilities that allow users to effectively and accurately share precise descriptions of notable events and incidents.

New Talent

As part of our continued growth, we welcomed two talented professionals to the Salt Communications team this year. Samuel Cunningham joined us as a Junior Graphic Designer, bringing fresh creativity and design expertise to our marketing and product presentation. In addition, Adam Johnston came on board as a Senior iOS Developer, playing a critical role in enhancing our mobile communication solution. Their contributions have been invaluable as we strive to deliver cutting-edge, user-friendly technology.

Supporting the local cyber security community

We also deepened our ties within the cybersecurity community through our affiliation with NI Cyber. Being part of this network has empowered us to engage more actively with industry peers, foster collaboration, and expand our connections with customers worldwide. This affiliation underscores our commitment to driving innovation and strengthening partnerships within the global cybersecurity ecosystem.
